Michaels/Sisson Residence
Situated on a steeply sloping, wooded site alongside a small
stream, this 2400 s.f. 3-story residence was designed to accommodate
a young professional couple. An industrial palette of materials
- steel, concrete block, and metal siding - were chosen not only
for aesthetic appeal but also for ease of maintenance. The living
area cantilevers off the lower level garage and bedrooms in an
effort to minimize root damage to the existing Douglas fir trees.
Only three trees were removed to accommodate the home. An entry
stair tower leads to the first floor which contains two children's
bedrooms, a bathroom, a small play area, laundry and mechanical
storage. The kitchen, living, and dining areas open onto a deck
to an expansive view of the wooded ravine. As one continues up
the stairs to the main level, the landing widens to provide space
for a small computer area outside the path of circulation. The
upper floor contains a music room and is connected to the master
bedroom via a bridge overlooking the living space below.
