Island Cabin & Studio
This house for a family of four is part of a planned development
where vehicle access is limited and the natural quality of the
island is preserved. The two buildings - the main house and guest
house/studio are linked by a glazed porch area. Access from the
road to the house and to the cliff edge below runs through this
outdoor area. A large sliding "barn door" closes off the back
edge of this porch to provide private outdoor space when needed.
In contrast to the solid north side of the cabin, the south side
of the house opens to the water view. Two large glass doors slide
open nearly the entire length of the room giving the main space
the feeling of an outdoor porch. Sleeping areas are located above
and feel more protected with solid walls and "punched" window
openings.
