Robert E. Hull, FAIA
Partner
As a founding partner of The Miller Hull Partnership, along with David Miller, Robert has been the creative force
behind the majority of the firm’s public projects and community buildings. An award-winning design architect, Robert’s
experience on a wide range of project types goes beyond meeting the program requirements. It is a search for ideal
solutions.
Robert received a bachelor of architecture degree in 1968 from Washington State University, twice receiving the Student
Distinction Award. From 1968 to 1972, Hull served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Afghanistan, where he designed and built
the headquarters for the National Tourism Agency and helped establish a school of architecture at Kabul University.
After returning to the United States, he worked in the New York office of Marcel Breuer from 1972 to 1975.
He relocated to Vancouver, Canada, in 1975 to join Rhone and Iredale Architects, where he was named partner
and opened the RIA Seattle office with David Miller. In 1977 the partners became independent from RIA and renamed the
firm the Miller Hull Partnership. Bob was named a Fellow by the American Institute of Architects in 1992.
Alongside of Miller in 2006, Bob received the Washington State University Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes
and honors alumni who have given outstanding service and provide encouragement to alumni for perpetual service to Washington
State University. In early 2010, Bob and Dave were selected for the 2010 AIA Seattle Medal of Honor in consideration of their
extraordinary lifetime collaboration and the achievement embodied in their work.
Robert has helped foster within his firm an emphasis on creative team design while providing strong inspirational conceptual
leadership. Communication skills and ease in the public forum of architecture are recognizable talents that Robert has instilled
into the firm practice. These attributes have resulted in design projects that reflect the input of the users in thoughtful and
enriched design solutions. Through the leadership of Robert and David, Miller Hull is the recipient of the National Firm Award from
the American Institute of Architects.
