Richard W. Whealan Jr., AIA, LEED AP
Principal
As a Principal at Miller Hull, Rich Whealan has served as project manager on
many of the firm’s most complex projects. Rich works closely with members
of our consulting engineers to understand the building system requirements
early in the design process, and with the design lead to integrate the building
systems into the architectural solution. Rich’s emphasis on integrated building
systems during the design phase and his follow-through during construction
results in a final building that is beautiful, functional, and maintainable.
Rich received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic
State University, San Luis Obispo, in 1988, after completing his final year of
study at the University of Copenhagen on an exchange program through the
Danish International Study program. Shortly after graduation, Rich travelled to
the east coast, settling in Richmond, Virginia, where he worked for Bond Comet
Westmoreland + Hiner Architects from 1988 – 1994.
Rich returned to the west coast in 1994, taking a position as a project manager
with the Miller Hull Partnership and became an Associate in 2002, and a
Principal in 2007. He has been a registered architect in the State of Washington
since 1994. Through his work on various projects, Rich provides a rational
approach and the refinement of design simplicity on every aspect of project
development.
