Mercer View Community Center
Located on the edge of Luther Burbank Park, and bordering a residential neighborhood on Mercer Island, the new
43,000 s.f. Community Center provides meeting conference and recreation rooms for the city.
The new facility includes a gymnasium, dance and fitness rooms, a Senior Program room, galleries, a full commercial
kitchen and large meeting space for 200 people. The building is sited to take advantage of the spectacular views
to the South and West to Lake Washington. Natural light permeates every room through large operable windows that
link the interior with the site. Large covered, civic outdoor spaces are provided at the buildings' entrances,
which blur the line between inside and out and serve as gathering spaces for the center. The main entrance features
a large glass steel and wood entrance canopy which welcomes visitors to the Center.
The Building is constructed of over scaled brick veneer, colored concrete block, cast in place concrete and metal
siding. The large volume that is the gymnasium is partially set into grade and angled against the rest of the
building to minimize the bulk and bring into the scale and proportion of the site and mass of the overall structure.
