Bellevue College Science & Technology Building
Bellevue College constructed a three story, 70,000-square-foot Science and Technology Building to provide specialized teaching
laboratories, lab support spaces, general classrooms and faculty offices. The science programs offered in this facility include
Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Oceanography, along with the integration of the Technology curriculum.
This project significantly improves the delivery and availability of science instruction to a wide variety of students, supports
the college in meeting its mission and goals, and provides educational support to those students intending on continuing on to the
university level.
The building is located at the main entrance to the campus adjacent to Landerholm Circle on a southwest facing, sloping site. The
project has four levels: a partial ground floor which daylights to the south, west and north and includes the main entrance to the
building from campus; a second floor with an on-grade entry; a third floor; and a mechanical penthouse level. The labs are organized
around a central lab support area at the second and third levels.
The main corridors are intended to provide places for students to meet in small groups for informal gatherings. Relites are be
provided into the laboratory and laboratory support spaces to address the faculty's desire for transparency and "Science on Display" -
along with providing various opportunities for monitoring devices to measure how the building is performing.
The project is LEED™ Gold certified.
