UCSD Structural & Nano Materials Engineering Building
Miller Hull (prime, architect of record, & design lead) in association with Safdie Rabines of San Diego, has designed a 165,000 square-foot research laboratory on the main campus at the University of California, San Diego. The project is under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2012.

Continuing their development of cutting edge technology in material science research, the new facility will provide the University of California, San Diego, a platform to delve deeper into nano-tube technologies and new composite structure materials for the aerospace, computer and electrical equipment and construction industries. In addition to research laboratory spaces for the Structural Engineering Department and Materials Sciences Program, the facility will provide space for high-bay testing equipment, auto-clave area and long term testing suites for material processing as well as digital imaging computer rooms, large workshop spaces for student projects and offices for staff and research faculty.

Co-located with the Department of Structural Engineering will be a portion of the Visual Arts Department. Intending to bring together the Digital Arts and Engineering programs, shared space needs include computer labs, video editing suites, presentation and gallery spaces as well as faculty and graduate student studios.

Pursuing LEED Silver Certification.
