Hands On Children's Museum
A nationally-recognized facility, the Hands On Children's Museum hosts more visitors for its size than most other children's museums in
Washington State. It is the largest tourist attraction after Olympia's State Capitol, accommodating up to 150,000 visitors annually
(250,000 projected with the new building).
The expansion of this project includes building a 28,000-square-foot permanent home to be located on the waterfront in downtown Olympia,
adjacent to the
LOTT Administration and Lab Building with whom it will share a plaza. The new museum is on
target to achieve LEED Silver certification, and will have four exhibit galleries, an early learning gallery, a rotating exhibit area for
travelling exhibits, an enlarged art studio, new performance space and visual arts exhibits areas, and a generous new lobby for community
and museum events. Also included will be a 10,000-square-foot outdoor learning space. The museum is scheduled to open spring 2012.
